Design-Led Innovation: Identifying and Overcoming the Intellectual Blind-Spots That Hold Back Innovation

In this half-day workshop Steve Baty will present a range of techniques to help project teams identify sources of innovative concepts and methods of concept generation. The focus of this workshop will be on concepts that break the mold and challenge accepted bases of competition. Participants will work to identify their blind spots and overcome them as one of the key barriers to new ways of thinking.

The workshop will cover:

  • A brief introduction to innovation and strategy
  • Sensemaking: design synthesis and the role of insight
  • A framework for innovation
  • Industry cliches: identifying industry common practice, and doing something different
  • Reframing: looking at the problem in new ways
  • Challenging constraints: “What if…”
  • Participants will leave this workshop with:

  • A framework for identifying blindspots
  • Techniques for generating design concepts within the innovation framework
